'When MCA bashes Islam, Umno keeps quiet'

YOURSAY 'We know that their May 13 stories have not worked. They now try using religious issues to scare certain races.'

Nik Aziz lauds DAP for defending Islam

your say Wira: From what I read, Rasah MP Anthony Loke defended PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat. He did not defend Islam because he needn't to.

Muslims, including those in Umno, must defend their faith. When MCA bashed Islam, Umno kept quiet.

Anonymous_3e86: BN and all their component parties use scare tactics to frighten the people into supporting them. But we know that their May 13 stories have not worked.

They now try religious issues to scare certain races. BN is devoid of ideas on how to woo the people itno supporting them.

Doc: Malaysia has come a long way from May 13 with regards to racial segregation. Here we see Loke supporting Tok Guru.

Not forgetting Penang CM Lim Guan Eng standing up for a minor allegedly raped by the former Malacca CM Rahim Thamby Chik.

20121221Disaster: It caused me to wonder why Tok Guru's perception on the moral value of the Muslims is so alarming low.

Tok Guru believes that when Muslims encounter naked aborigines, they will go on a rape rampage. If Tok Guru perception of Muslims is as such, enhanced morale education for the Muslims is necessary.

Chipmunk: Tok Guru, I have most respect for you. Even though I am not a Muslim, but I must say that you are truly a man who other Malays (Umno Malays) have to emulate.

Your humbleness and meekness just goes to show that you have a big heart. May you and your family be continued to be blessed by Almighty God.

Hero325: By supporting PAS, the non-Muslims have made the ulama so powerful that nobody could check them.

The non-Muslims complain a lot and aloud about concentration and abuse of power, but it looks like they are comfortable with PAS ulama.

Sooner than later, the non-Muslims would be deprived of constitutional protection and subject themselves to abuses by the ulama.

Alfa: MCA leaders are ignorant and in the dark even in their own religions. Buddhism teaches its followers to abstain from unwholesome activities such as gambling, taking intoxicants and indulging in unseemly activities in the wee hours.

Yet these MCA leaders fought so hard to defend these unwholesome actions.

Geronimo: "I feel dwarfed when facing a religious and political figure with such a soul and heart as big as Tok Guru Nik Aziz," said Anthony Loke.

Yes, Anthony, we share the same sentiments too. Don't worry, we are all behind Tok Guru all the way come GE13.

Blind Freddo: I realise that Malaysia is pretty short on role models, but to elevate Nik Aziz to this level is a measure of Malaysian standards.

How can anyone admire a man who has built his career on the discrimination and repression of women and the betrayal of the trust of young children followed by the destruction of their reasoning powers is beyond understanding.

Nik Aziz stands for hate, discrimination, fear, repression, censorship and ignorance... and you feel dwarfed by that?

Anonymous #18452573: Nik Aziz and Anthony Loke have shown magnanimity. To me, I know what Nik Aziz said is incorrect and his perception of why rape happens is based on the religious context. But this is not because he is encouraging rape.

Therein lies the difference between religious thinking versus the reality of why rape occurs.

Overall, he is a better Muslim man in one finger than 10 Umno-BN men standing in a row just because of his sincerity, integrity and honesty.

Non-Malays need to understand that and see past the divisive fear MCA and Umno are trying to instill into us.

Malaysia is a secular state, reiterates Karpal

IC It: Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared in September 2001 at the Gerakan general assembly that Malaysia was an Islamic state. Not even one of Umno's partners, especially MCA, MIC, and Gerakan, opposed it. Not even a whisper of displeasure.

Geronimo: Many Umno and pro-Umno leaders have always painted Karpal as anti-Islam just to put the latter in bad light with the Muslims.

However, as a lawyer and a constitutional one at that, Karpal was merely adhering to the principles of the law.

What is the point in having legal precedents when you get jokers like Umno which has the habit of  ignoring them or overriding them.

We might as well don't have any legal courts at all. Karpal did say once that if Umno wishes to have an Islamic state, convene a parliamentary sitting to change the Federal Constitution and he will abide by it.

After all, at that point in time, the BN had more than two-third majority.

But why was this not done but Umno prefer to do it on an arbitrary basis?  Without doubt Umno likes to ride roughshod over all and sundry just to get its own way.

Karpal has quoted precedents and believe it or not, Umno has a way of twisting them to meet their fancies.

Anonyxyz: If Malaysia is an Islamic country, the current BN government is guilty of the biggest insult to the religion because an Islamic country cannot be governed by a group of corrupted politicians who accumulate wealth so blatantly with no fear of God.

It is indeed an embarrassment when we have a gambling den on top of a hill, all kinds of vices like gambling, sex parlours and what nots and a powerful ex-Muslim PM whose family indulges in the alcohol business. At least, a secular state will save us from such stigma shame.

Apa Ini: How can any country with a multi-iracial and multi-religious composition ever be an Islamic state? Islamic laws - shariah, hudud - can only be imposed on those who profess Islam.

Muslims cannot convert to avoid conforming to the Islamic laws and if they do, they've got to live elsewhere, it's as simple as that. We are citizens equally before the law - secular laws - only our Muslim brothers and sisters have to face extra Islamic ones which govern their religious beliefs and behaviour.

Why is this suddenly rocket science in Malaysia? What happened to Malaysia Truly Asia?

Keturunan Malaysia: Respecting all my fellow Muslims and recognising Islam as the official religion of this country does by no means say I can't equally respect all other religions/faiths.

Likewise, I am no less a Buddhist as those of my relatives and friends are less Muslim, Christian, Hindu and so on.
