Although Pakatan Rakyat has managed to increase Malay representation in Parliament, not all of them have the capability to voice out their views and participate in debates effectively, said Kelantan Umno liason chief and Umno supreme council member Mustapa Mohamed.

NONE “There are many from Pakatan but they are only able to show their face in Parliament. I admit they have many Malay leaders, but their numbers is off no good if they do not know how to voice them (their views),” the International Trade and Industry Minister was quoted saying in Sinar Harian today.

Mustapa denied that the lack of Malay parlimentarians from Umno after the last general election shows that the party is not vociferous in fighting for the Malays in the legislature.

He said Umno has, and always will, fight for the Malays.

NONE Mustapa was responding to comments from PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu ( right ) that Pakatan's win has managed to increase the Malay voice in Parliament, compared to Barisan Nasional.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia geo-strategist specialist Dr Azmi Hassan said the victory of the Malay Pakatan leaders should be evaluated based on the quality of its candidates.

The numbers of leaders, Azmi said, is just a statistical figure and does not reflect Pakatan's true capability.

“I see the selection of Malay candidates in Pakatan as limp, affecting the opposition coalition's credibility. The quality of the Malay MPs in Pakatan is low because they cannot lead and hence fight for Malay rights,” said the specialist.
