The Negri Sembilan government supports efforts by the federal government in inviting tenders from companies to take over the National Feedlot Centre project in Gemas from the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFC).

Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said the NFC project, which was stalled due to management problems, had to be continued because of its benefit to the country.

“It can help reduce the country’s meat imports, as well as to make repayments of the loans given by the government,” he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting in Seremban today.

He said this when commenting on a statement by Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Noh Omar that the government was discussing with companies to take over the operations of the feedlot project.

Mohamad said the state government had never interfered in the management of the feedlot project.

“We only lease the site for the project and have written to NFC for payment of the lease which has not been paid since a year ago,” he added.
