The Penang opposition is incensed that the state government has yet to provide the legislative assembly with verbal and written answers.

The 11 Umno reps are giving Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng 24 hours to send the documents to their houses or else, it is an "admission that the state government is weak, incompetent and not transparent".

NONE Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Mohd Arif Mohd Shah (right) said that without the documents, the quality of debate in the following days will suffer at the state legislative assembly.

The assembly, the second this year, will sit until Nov 9.

Mohd Arif noted that there are three verbal and 30 written questions per assemblyperson, but only one verbal question has been answered.

"We are indeed very disappointed with the CAT government. Instead of competency, accountability and transparency, it is not competent, weak and not transparent," he told a press conference at the state legislative assembly building.

"We are supposed to have the Freedom of Information law, but information is not given to us.

"Previously, we would have all the documents earlier so we can have a quality debate," he added.

"If they do have the answers, why embargo it? They are truly without integrity".

‘It's a small matter'

Meanwhile, in an immediate response, Lim dismissed his opponents concerns as a "small issue".

He waved off the matter as petty, showing clearly that Umno assemblypersons do not have anything substantial to raise.

"It is petty compared to bigger issues like corruption and poverty," Lim ( below ) said, when met after tabling the state 2013 budget in Penang.

NONE "We have provided some of the answers but we do not know why the Dewan secretariat has yet to furnish the YBs with the documents," added the DAP secretary-general.

"In Parliament, we sometimes receive answers late, too, but we are given the time to ask for clarifications".
