A hearse driver died today after he was struck by lightning at a cemetery where he had sent a body for burial, police said.

Daniel Rodie, 34, was killed in the hut where he was sheltering from the rain at the Taman Century Cemetery in Luyang near Kota Kinabalu, said Kota Kinabalu City Police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun.

“The incident happened at 3.50pm after he had sent the body for burial. Police were informed at 4.25pm,” he said in a statement.

Jauteh said Daniel’s body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
