S Ambiga, co-chairperson of the coalition for clean and fair elections (Bersih), said she had no problem with the present government being voted in again in the next general election so long as it is conducted fairly.

“It can be the same government, the same people coming in, (but) they have to allow a clean and fair election,” she said in an interview with CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour aired on Tuesday.

The former Bar Council president was responding to a question whether the ‘Arab Spring’ uprising might happen in Malaysia.

“Where we’re coming from, we don’t want an ‘Arab Spring’. We want to choose our leaders through a clean and fair elections, we want to do it through the ballot box,” she added.

Ambiga said she was more worried about the election process itself, rather than who won the election.

“The election process is important because it reflects the will of the people. It is about legitimacy and honouring the right of the voters to vote,” she said.
