Nurul's watershed idea for the nation

your say Not Confused: Steve Oh's letter is excellent and should be required reading for everyone, including members of all political parties of whatever persuasion. It is honest, realistic and enlightened.

If the police action against Malaysiakini and Steve Oh is carried through, it will only result in yet more consolidation of support for a root and branch change in government in this country.

I have often thought these thoughts, but never had I the courage or level of articulation to express it in the way you did. Thank you for the article.

Keropok Lekor: Whether one agrees or not with Steve Oh, he is entitled to his opinion. But how is it that his letter is considered seditious? He expresses his thoughts and makes his arguments for what he believes will turn Malaysia into a better country.

If only many more people would take that stance of loving Malaysia and taking actions for improving it instead of saying that Malaysia is not as bad (yet) as some backwater country like Zimbabwe.

Well, give it another couple of hours and a few more thousand people would have read it. Thank you very much, Police diRaja Malaysia (PDRM). This has strengthened our resolve to vote the blighted BN out of power.

Swipenter: Discussing Malaysian politics with friends over the years has convinced us that our country would not be able to realise its full potential unless the Malays undergo a mind revolution because their present mindset is so shackled by their political elites.

They are the majority and anybody can see that they are going to be an even bigger majority in years to come. Just imagine the kind of country Malaysia would turn to be if their minds are still shackled 20 years down the road.

The Middle East provides us a glimpse of what we can be if this process of Arabisation and Islamisation is not corrected and reversed.

Apa Fasal?: We voted for Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar the last time and for this coming GE, we will vote for her again. She represents the aspiration of the just and the enlightened. We are certain Nurul will triumph again, this time with a greater majority.

Just truths left unsaid because there are so few Steve Ohs and Nurul Izzahs in this country.

Anonyxyz: To add on to this discussion which is specific to Muslims and Steve's comments that he doesn't see the Chinese being hung-up about their religious and political diversity, I beg to differ.

Based on my personal experiences (I am a Chinese), Chinese who are non-Christians avoid debating about Christianity when Christians are around because it will turn nasty.

In addition, based on my knowledge, Christians expect extremely strongly (a fine line close to demand or force like Muslims in Malaysia) their spouses to become one as well and children born to Christian parents are automatically Christians by birth. I stand corrected on this.

I opined that Steve's letter should not be seen to be directed at Muslims alone, but to Christians and others who are also misguided by religious propaganda and the demand that others follow their faith as they believe their religion is the most supreme, while others are false.

Fairplayer: Steve, I think the authority figures who read your letter don't have the IQ to comprehend its content. That's why they have resorted to the law of the Dark Ages to get at you. Truth always hurts and it hits hard at those who are guilty.

If the powers-that-be think the content is seditious, it goes to show what kind, or how much, grey matter they have between their ears.

Gemencheh: This is one of the most beautiful and courageous letters I have read. Beautiful because it is truthful. Courageous because Steve Oh still loves this country. Bravo Steve!

Cheong Sai Fah: This article is superb and covers nearly all the areas that concern Malaysians. It would be interesting to know which parts are considered seditious by the police.

I am not sure that Nurul Izzah's position will cause her to lose votes. Only a few days ago, we had news of US presidential candidate Mitt Romney being defeated mainly for his archaic views on abortion and birth control when reportedly over 90 percent of American Catholic women practise birth control. The women and the young went with Barack Obama.

Who is to tell that the young and others who share her views are not increasing in numbers?
