Just four days before the commencement of the PAS muktamar (annual general meeting), the Islamic party’s Dewan Ulama chief Harun Taib said he leaves it to the public to judge PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s remark on “no compulsion in religion”.

The conservative religious leader, who had earlier ticked off the Lembah Pantai MP over her controversial statement, told Utusan Malaysia that he believes the people know how to judge Nurul.

NONE “Enough lah, I don’t want to comment much. I don’t want to interfere any more in this issue. I believe the people know how to judge.”

Harun ( right ) also said that only Nurul herself can evaluate the need to retract the statement to avoid creating confusion among Muslims.

“If she thinks it was wrong, she would have to retract the statement. But if she thinks it was not wrong, it would be within her rights if she refuses to retract the statement,” he was quoted as saying.

Harun added that Nurul is a knowledgeable leader who knows what is best for the benefit of all quarters.
