SMSL Sdn Bhd (Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas) has filed for an interim stay on Lynas Corp Ltd's temporary operating license (TOL) at the High Court of Kuantan on Friday.

NONE This follows the Kuantan High Court's lifting of an earlier suspension of the Australian rare-miner's TOL for its Pahang refinery last Thursday.

"We are disappointed that the court's decision on the TOL did not give due attention to the possible harm that can ensue once the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp) starts to operate," said Ismail Abu Bakar, one of the applicants.

"We have been informed by highly qualified and skilled independent experts that Lynas has no safe radioactive waste management plan and there are serious risk and hazards for workers, which have not been identified by Lynas."

The case is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday.

SMSL asserted in a statement that the court has neglected to take into consideration two judicial review cases aimed at nullifying the approval of the TOL.

If these cases succeed, they argued, then the Lynas TOL will no longer be legally valid or useful.

"We aim to convince the court in our appeal that the precaution is essential," explained Ram Punusamy, a local resident and SMSL activist.

"It is within the court's jurisdiction and power to take precautionary steps necessary to prevent harm from materialising and it should be applied to our case."

NONE SMSL spokesperson Tan Bun Teet ( right ) appealed to supporters of the Stop Lynas campaign to show their support by attending the hearing.

"We hereby call upon all residents of Kuantan and greater Kuantan to come forward to do something to protect your family, investments and future in Kuantan."
