The Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) has advised residents in Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor in Selangor as well as Sungai Rembau in Titian Bitangor, Rembau, Negri Sembilan to be on the alert following rising water above warning levels in the rivers.

The same situation is also taking place in Sarawak Maritime and Sungai Bidut in Sibu, with levels at 2.85 metres and 3.05 metres respectively.

As at 10pm tonight, the water level in Sungai Langat, Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat was at 4.06 metres while in Sungai Selangor at Kuala Badong, Kuala Selangor, it was at 3.72 metres.

According to the JPS portal, the water level of Sungai Rembau at Titian Bitangor, Rembau, Negri Sembilan has reached 6.68 metres.

Meanwhile, the National Security Council (MKN) said the number of flood victims in Johor was unchanged at 143 persons while in Perak there were 45 evacuees.

Selangor has 1,309 evacuees while in Malacca, the number has dropped from 60 to 27 and in Sarawak, there are still five.

In KUCHING, the Sarawak Flood Operations Centre which was opened two weeks ago, would extend its operation hours to midnight, said Sarawak MKN assistant secretary, Major Mohd Yusni Abu Bakar.

Today, the MKN only received flood reports from areas in Marudi involving four villages but the victims are putting up with relatives.

“In Betong, flood waters have inundated a 150-metre stretch of a road, causing it to be closed to traffic,” Mohd Yusni told reporters after a luncheon talk organised by the Sarawak Information Department.
