The PAS central committee will give an exemption to certain leaders of the party to contest two seats in the next general election, PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali said today.

He said the party leadership had agreed in principle that one candidate contest one seat but the exemption would be given on specific grounds.

NONE "It will be left to the central committee to go down to the ground to listen to proposals in specific areas. As far as possible, we will allocate one seat (per candidate), but an exemption will be given in certain cases," he told a news conference on the sidelines of the PAS Congress in Kota Bharu.

Also present at the news conference were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu.   

Mustafa said the allocation of seats for PAS candidates was 90 percent complete.

"A few more have to be allocated, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak. We cannot make an announcement yet," he said.

Asked about the request of the PAS Supporters Club to contest in the next general election, Mustafa said the club would be given seats but it could not be announced yet.

"Non-Muslims will also contest on a PAS ticket, but their number will be small," he said.
