Malaysia has clinched eighth spot in the ‘happiest country’ ranking list of a World Happiness Report published and released by The Earth Institute, Columbia University.

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar said in the survey that involved 100 countries, Malaysia had overtaken developed countries like the United States, Canada and Japan.

"In contrast USA are in 23rd spot, Canada (24), Japan (34) and South Korea (38).

"I share this information because every action and its effectiveness reflects the well being of the community," he said when opening a congress of Auxiliary police agency heads and senior police officers at Wisma Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in Kota Kinabalu today.

He urged everyone involved in programmes involving the community to continue their good work to ensure that the country would continue to be recognised.
