The PAS government in Kedah today tabled a deficit budget amounting to RM1.1 billion for 2013 against a revenue of RM640 million.

Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak when tabling the budget at the state assembly said RM657 million would be used for administration, RM369 million for development and RM57.5 million for water supply.

Azizan said the state government expect revenue for 2013 to increase from RM550 million in 2012 to RM640 million in 2013 with the additional RM105.6 million contributed by land premium in Langkawi, Alor Setar and Bandar Baru, plus the sale of raw water to Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) and the Penang government.

He said four strategies would be adopted to boost economic, welfare of the people, human capital and strengthen the administration of the state government.

Meanwhile, Azizan acknowledged that a number of government linked companies (GLCs) had not achieved the desired results for the five-year period under Pakatan rule.

“We are always monitoring the performance of GLCs to ensure they do not fail but yet there are GLCs that failed and suffered losses,” he said.

He added that the state government would also take proactive measures to encourage direct foreign investment.

Azizan said the state government had also conducted a study to analyse the agenda and programmes organised by the state government till now and were able to identify a number of weaknesses in social or economic sectors.
