All the 12 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblypersons staged a walkout from the Kedah state assembly meeting today, claiming that speaker Dr Abdul Isa Ismail was biased.  

All of them returned to the meeting 15 minutes later except for Kota Siputeh assemblyperson Abu Hassan Sarif who had been ordered out by the speaker for defying his order not to interrupt state Domestic Trade, Consumerism, Unity and Human Resources Management Committee chairperson Lim Soo Nee (PKR-Kulim), who was speaking then.   

Lim, in his winding-up speech, raised the issue of Abu Hassan’s son who he claimed had held a Grade N41 post that did not exist in the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council.  

After it was learnt that the appointment was improper, Abu Hassan’s son was offered a post on Grade N17 but he rejected it, said Lim.

Abu Hassan, who was irked by that statement, insisted that he be given the chance to explain as the matter was related to the dignity of his son, but the speaker refused and ordered him to leave the house.

The other BN assemblypersons also followed him out of the meeting, along with the independent assemblyman from Lunas, Radzi Salleh.

Abu Hassan told reporters outside the house he was disappointed with the speaker.

“This government is irresponsible and does not practice democracy. They have no courage to face the people. When we want to ask questions, but they accuse us of being wrong,” he said.
