Renovation and upgrading works at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas have been substantially completed, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said today.
The airport has been functioning at full capacity in most of the upgraded areas, the airport operator said.
As a result of the upgrading work, passenger flow throughout the airport has improved significantly, with the opening of all the departure gates, it said.
The retail and food and beverages areas have been expanded and redesigned, with the outlets now in the process of being handed over to the retailers for fit-out.
“We would like to assure the public that we have made every effort to minimise disruptions to airport operations and inconvenience to airport users during the construction period,” MAHB said in a statement.
To enhance passenger facilities further, MAHB said the transfer corridor was undergoing additional upgrading work to provide for a lift and an escalator.
Additional upgrading works are expected to be fully completed by year-end and retailers and food and beverages operators are expected to open their shops in stages from now until end of January next year.
