The DAP has been taken to task for not doing anything about the Islamic policies of PAS in Kelantan, especially those affecting non-Muslims.

NONE State BN publicity bureau chief Tan Cheng Liang ( right ) said the DAP should depart from the Pakatan Rakyat coalition if it is not able to stop its partner from implementing such policies.

"What is happening in the East Coast state is a model for what Malaysia will be if a PAS-led Pakatan government assumes federal power in the next general election," Tan told a press conference today.

"If it happens, then there will no point of return, just like what happened in Iran," she added.

Tan was referring to the Kelantan government's refusal to withdraw from its imposition of gender segregation rules that forbid women from cutting men's hair and vice-versa.

The PAS-led Kota Baru municipal council said the ruling had been in effect since 10 years ago.

DAP national chairman Karpal Singh described the ruling as "unconstitutional" and urged PAS leaders to intervene and resolve the matter.

Karpal, who is Bukit Gelugor MP, called the controversy an "unkind cut" for Pakatan in view of the looming general election.

Tan said PAS had never abandoned its struggle for Malaysia to be an Islamic state.

"But we want to ask the DAP how long it wants to continue to whitewash PAS," Tan said. "The voters should evaluate the matter for themselves."
