The letter issued by Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) does not absolve Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman of corruption, says PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli.

"The letter sent by the ICAC never stated that Musa Aman is cleared of corruption cases or implies that Musa Aman is clean from corruption, as touted by Umno/BN.

"The letter just informs that based on the information obtained by ICAC so far, ICAC has decided not to pursue the investigation on Musa Aman further," Rafizi said.

He made this statement today in response to Sabah BN secretary Abdul Rahman Dahlan's interview with The Malaysian Insider that ICAC in a letter to Musa said it would not make further investigations on him.

Rafizi also said that ICAC’s decision to discontinue the probe has raised more questions.

“It also strengthen certain parties’ views that the ICAC has not been receiving full cooperation from the Malaysian authorities in the probe as they do not have the power to investigate and gather evidence,” he asserted.

In the interview, Abdul Rahman revealed the letter to the news portal and mentioned that Sabah Umno is considering using the letter to take legal action against Rafizi.

“It is definitely an option on the table. Rafizi has violated some laws,” said Abdul Rahman, alleging defamation as well as an alleged breach of Section 29(4) of the MACC Act 2009 which protects the identity of an accused.

azlan In reply, Rafizi said that he does not feel threatened by the possible lawsuit and called for Musa to reveal the letter himself instead of using Abdul Rahman as his mouthpiece.

“I’m confident as I’m only fulfilling my responsibilities as a citizen and am prepared to defend my case if I am brought to court at any time.”

He also stated that the best way Musa can clear his name is to declare the details of the supposed RM40 million contribution - who gave the donation; the relationship of the of the contributor to him or Umno; what contracts and concessions have been given to the donor; and where is the money kept and under whose name.

“If Musa fails to provide the answers truthfully, it will continue to prolong the case and I will continue to focus on collecting new information and evidence to be presented to the people,” he said.
