Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob’s flip-flop this week on his pledge to cut off his ears and jump into the Pahang River if BN loses is nothing new, said a Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leader.

“In Cameron Highlands PSM’s experience, it is not impossible for the Pahang menteri besar to promise something and then renege.

“He had done this before, so why can’t he do it again?” said  Cameron Highlands PSM secretary Suresh Kumar in a statement today.

He was commenting on Adnan’s statement on Friday that if BN loses the Bentong parliamentary seat, “you (can) cut my ears and I’d jump into the Pahang river.”

However, when asked to comment on the social media backlash against his statement on the following day, Adnan said it was merely a figure of speech to show his level of confidence, but he did not mean it literally.

Suresh claimed that Adnan had given false promises regarding the land, housing and hawker stalls issues affecting the people of Cameron Highlands before.

He said that on April 9, the MB told some 30 Cameron Highlands residents that he would visit every problem that they face in two weeks and resolve it.

“Now eight months have passed, but we still haven’t seen him,” he said.

In a separate instance, Suresh claimed that Adnan issued a press statement on July 18 that the squatters at Green Cow, Cameron Highlands had been given replacement land to build their homes.

“But to this day, the Green Cow residents are still living in the same place and face the threat of landslides due to commercial projects (uphill).

“Also giving empty promises on this matter along with the Pahang menteri besar is MIC president G Palanivel,” added Suresh.
