Indonesia’s anti-corruption commission has detained a high-ranking police officer as the main suspect in a procurement graft case, local media reported today.

Inspector-general Djoko Susilo, the former head of the national police traffic division, was reportedly the first active high-ranking officer to be arrested in a corruption case in the country.

He was charged with abuse of authority and enriching himself, The Jakarta Post reported.

He will be held for 20 days for questioning over his involvement in the procurement of driving simulators that apparently caused US$19.81 million in state losses, the Jakarta Globe reported.

Susilo allegedly received a 2 billion Indonesian rupiah (US$208,000) in kickbacks to award a 198-billion-rupiah contract for the simulators to an unqualified company last year, the report said.

This year, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed his concern that rampant corruption in the country was threatening economic growth.
