A SIM card seller and another, described only as a religious affairs officer, were bound over on good behaviour by the magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur after pleading guilty for obstructing Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers from discharging their duty at Merdeka Square last April.

Magistrate Nur Azura Murah bound over Shaiful Buhari Ramlan, 25, and Muhammmad Karim Abdullah, 24, in a sum of RM800 with one surety for two years.

Meanwhile, two other men who are local university students, namely Muhammad Aliff Hafiz Zainuddin, 21, and Ekhsan Bukharee Badarul Hisham, 21, were fined RM700 or jailed 15 days if they failed to pay the fine. All the four were sentenced after they changed their plea to guilty.

According to the charge, they had deliberately prevented the officers from removing the tent set up without permission at the square at Jalan Raja in Kuala Lumpur at 12.50pm, on April 24.

They were all charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both.
