Two Colombian men escaped from police custody while being brought to the Petaling Jaya court yesterday.

Martin Rodriguez Yerson David, 26, and Sana Bria Florian Jorge Luis, 22, who were detained last Nov 12, went missing while being escorted together with eight others by three police personnel from the Shah Alam integrated lockup in a police vehicle.

Serdang police chief ACP Abd Razak Elias in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, said the policemen only realised that the men were missing upon reaching the court at 11.20am.

According to him, the duo were detained under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for housebreaking and Section 6(1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1963 for not possessing valid travel documents.

He did not rule out negligence on the part of the policemen.
