MCA has formed a special committee to assist business operators including hair salon owners facing problems with the PAS-led Kelantan state government to the extent of affecting their business.

Kelantan MCA chairperson Dr Ng Yen Yen said the committee was chaired by Giam Say Khoon, secretary to party president Dr Chua Soi Lek, to provide assistance including legal aid, capital loans and to move their business elsewhere if they were no longer willing to do business in Kelantan.

“They can come to us to seek help, including to sue the state government," she said after a Kelantan MCA meeting in Kota Baru today.

Ng was commenting on the complaint from a hair salon manager, Ong Lee Ting, that she was issued with 11 summonses by the local authority since 2010 whenever her non-Muslim female workers were found cutting the hair of non-Muslim male customers.

Ong was fined RM200 to RM350 and claimed that other hair salons also faced the same problem.

The state government’s action was slammed by DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh who reportedly said that non-Muslims could take up the case to court.

Ng who is also Tourism Minister, criticised PAS for imposing various conditions that stifled the business of non-Muslims during 22 years of its rule in Kelantan.

“The Chinese community cannot accept that fines are imposed when non-Muslim female workers cut the hair of non-Muslim men.

“What’s the problem? Everyone can see what goes on at these hair salons. It’s open. The hair-cutting is not done in a secluded room,” she said, and urged the affected hair salon operators to contact the special committee at 03-22033888.
