Police should not be kicking up a big fuss over the lack of notification on next week's Pakatan-backed stateless Indian protest in Putrajaya, said PKR vic- president N Surendran.

Instead, he said, they should have been aware of the event as it has been the topic of Pakatan ceramah and press statement for over a month or so.

"Police asked why there was no notification 10 days before the rally as required in the (Peaceful Assembly) Act.

NONE "(However), on Dec 2, Kapar MP S Manikavasagam was questioned by the police...we are disappointed that the police (were) dishonest if they didn't know about the rally as he was called because of that," Surendran ( left ) told Malaysiakini when contacted today.

The time gap between Manikavasagam being summoned and the rally, is 10 days.

Surendran was summoned by Putrajaya police chief ACP Abdul Razak Abdul Majid this afternoon for his statement on the proposed rally.

Cooperation -no commitment from police

He said that he had requested full police cooperation in facilitating the rally at the 20 -minute meeting but no commitment was forthcoming.

As such, he warned the police against any attempt to thwart the gathering, pointing out that Federal Constitution guarantees freedom of assembly.

NONE On Tuesday, Surendran was called to the Travers police station, Kuala Lumpur, regarding the speech he delivered in Brickfields on Nov 24 on stateless Indians and their right to MyKad and birth certificates.

He described police questioning as an attempt to crack down on the proposed sit-in rally.
