Seven grassroots members of the Negri Sembilan Gerakan are to make a 'hairdressing trip' to Kota Baru in an attempt to challenge the Kelantan government's controversial ruling on unisex hair salons.

Negri Sembilan Gerakan assistant secretary David Choong Wee Hing is quoted by Sin Chew Dail y today as saying that they will look for services provided by women hairstylists once they reach Kota Baru tomorrow.

Should the hair salons receive summonses from the local council, they would hand these over to the DAP, Choong is quoted as saying.

The controversy over the strict enforcement of local council rules on unisex hair salons erupted when a female hairdresser was summoned by the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) for cutting the hair of a non-Muslim male customer.

The ruling has drawn flak from both MCA and DAP.

However, after meeting with state exco members Takiyuddin Hassan and Muhamed Fadzli Hassan, Kelantan Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairperson Goh Tee Chew is optimistic that the ruling will be relaxed.

The state is expected to announce its decision on the ruling after the executive council meeting on Wednesday.
