A module on integrity and corruption prevention will probably be included in three subjects taught both in primary and secondary schools next year, Deputy Education Minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi said.

NONE He said the ministry was in the midst of studying the proposal made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to include the modules into the subject of Islamic Education, Civic Education and Moral Education.

"We have received the proposal and is in the midst of studying it. However, we will always cooperate with the MACC in the aspect of co-curriculum, such as through exhibitions and talks or a school visit to MACC office," he said in reply to Senator Roslin Abdul Rahman in the Dewan Negara sitting today.

According to media reports, the proposed module was submitted to the ministry in June.

Mohd Puad said the emphasis on integrity at the school level could help prevent individuals from getting involved in corrupt practices when they enter working life.

He said the ministry was also in the midst of discussing with the MACC on the possibility of setting up an anti-corruption centre at the Teachers' Training Institute to train future teachers on good values, which they should teach to their future students.

Meanwhile, when replying to Senator Lihan Jok, Mohd Puad said RM1.92 million had been distributed to district education offices in Sarawak to overcome the transportation woes among the Penan pupils.

He said the amount comprised the cost for all transportation and hostel activities.
