RM70k not enough to teach Utusan a lesson

YOURSAY ‘The High Court should issue a warning that any more nonsense coming from Utusan should render its publication licence revoked.'

Utusan ordered to pay Karpal RM70k for libel

your say Vijay47: The fact that Utusan Malaysia has to pay damages to the many members of the opposition that it has defamed is hardly of concern to it since it serves the greater interests of its masters.

Otherwise, how could it be allowed to consistently and constantly go about writing untruths and libel against all those who pose a challenge to Umno, knowing that the victims will be sure to sue?

The amounts that the courts have ordered Utusan to pay makes nary a dent to its coffers and there is much more where the funds come from.

Only in Malaysia will the ruling party openly transfer the country's assets to itself and glibly state that such abuse of authority is nothing illegal and not to be condemned.

The parceling off of land at the price of RM1 per square foot is still fresh in our minds. Unless the courts come down really hard on Utusan , bearing in mind the frequency and nonchalance with which such acts are perpetrated, nothing is going to make this miserable paper change. Except perhaps GE13.

Cantabrigian: What is RM70,000 compared to the damage caused by this filthy mouthpiece of Umno - creating distrust among Malaysians, sowing the seed of hatred to young ones, glorifying lies as a political culture, etc?

The High Court should issue a warning that any more nonsense from Utusan should render its publication licence revoked.

Ssaniku: We do have two sets of laws in the country. Why is Utusan 's licence not suspended? They are guilty in the eyes of the law, but not guilty to the Home Ministry?

Disbeliever: Utusan never learns. As long as it has Umno as its ‘Godfather', it will continue to churn out allegedly slanderous and seditious reports and articles.

We have seen Utusan being hauled up to the courts so many times and having made to pay damages, yet it continues on its mala fide intentions of discrediting the innocent in favour of Umno.

The courts should resort to more drastic action by suspending their publishing licence (if possible) because the Home Ministry will never do that, since the home minister himself is an Umno man.

CAT lover: Utusan's attempts to assassinate opposition characters comes at a reasonable price to Umno, but RM70,000 is a welcomed donation to the struggle of Pakatan Rakyat.

Mushiro: The motive of Utusan is to cause maximum damage to Pakatan at the elections. This damages awarded to Karpal is too small an amount to put fear in Utusan from repeating such allegations in the near future.

Utusan and other MSM (mainstream media) will continue publishing their lies and make a mockery of our courts. It will be the courts' faults for encouraging such disobedience by meting out a light sentence.

Anonymous #69337042: This toilet paper is real shameless. Although it has been proven time and again that it violates the basic journalistic ethic of reporting the truth, it still sticks to its dirty policy of lying, spinning and distorting facts in order to serve the political agenda of its master to run down the opposition.

Only imbeciles and idiots buy and read this paper.

Home: Utusan now will have to budget funds every year for lawsuits and claims. Keep up the good work, Utusan.

Anonymous_5fb : I used to read Utusan during my student days because of its beautiful Malay and for getting a good grade in Bahasa Malaysia. Now, I trash it even if it's given free.

Apapunboleh: No matter how much money it has to pay, Utusan thinks it's worthwhile. The libel was for the ignorant rural folks to digest.

Free and Fair Election: Cut out this article, compile with all the older defamation suits that Utusan has already made to pay and send them over to the kampong areas. This is a good for nothing paper.

Anonymous #40538199: The board of directors of Utusan must be held responsible for allowing the staff of the company to blow away the shareholders' fund.

The Mask To All: Utusan readers, Penang CM Lim Guan Eng won his first suit and is now suing Utusan the second time. Karpal Singh has won his case. PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar is next in line.

Are you all so blur or your self-esteem so low that you are prepared to be led astray by this lying toilet paper? Come on, Utusan is laughing all the way to the banks with your money.

Moontime: Wow, Utusan must have plenty of money nowadays to pay the opposition for slandering them.

With circulations going downhill for many years now, hopes are fast fading for Utusan to turn over a new leaf. Will we see the end of Utusan one day?

Unless it prepares to shed the image of being Umno's mouthpiece and errand boy, things will never change.

Anonymous_3e21: Utusan is Umno and Umno is Utusan .
