Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said today he will defend his Pasir Mas parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the next general election.

Ibrahim said he will contest despite being an independent, but will continue to negotiate with any political parties that is willing to cooperate with him.

“To negotiate, I will have to see the (party's) struggles, action...I will see their policies. I am prepared to work with just about anybody.

“If there is no cooperation, I will go solo as an independent. I will contest even if there is a 10 or 15 cornered fight.

“But, I am willing to cooperate with anybody who is willing to work with me,” said Ibrahim at a press conference after officiating the Perkasa general meeting today, which he leads.

Last week Ibrahim told Sinar Harian that he has not applied to join Umno, but was open to returning to the party if they invited him.

In the article on Dec 9 he described how he had been sacked from the ruling party after which he joined PAS and contested Pasir Mas under the Islamic party’s ticket in 2008.

He quit the opposition party shortly after and has remained a BN-friendly independent.

In his speech today Ibrahim called on Perkasa members to pledge support in ensuring BN is victorious in the coming general election and hoped it could regain its two-thirds majority lost in 2008.
