A member of parliament has questioned police discretion in issuing summonses to motorists allegedly caught speeding in undesignated speed limit areas.

“I am not trying to oppose the enforcement authorities but they must act fairly and not issue summonses as they please, which would only burden motorists,” said Kalabakan Member of Parliament Abdul Ghapur Salleh in a statement in Tawau today.

Citing numerous complaints from unsuspecting motorists who were slapped with speeding summonses in areas where there were no speed limit signs in place, he claimed to have seen police personnel hiding behind trees to spot speeding motorists, including in Jalan Apas and Jalan Kuhara.
