Newly-minted DAP vice-chairperson Teresa Kok explained that her poor showing in the recently concluded DAP central council elections was the result of "difficult and unpopular decisions" she made as national organising secretary.

NONE Kok was appointed national organising secretary after she was elected into the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) in 2008 with the sixth highest votes.

However, in the party elections last weekend, the Seputeh MP and Selangor senior state executive councillor's support from delegates dropped significantly, with Kok getting just 925 of 1825 votes cast, putting her in the 18th spot among the 20 CEC members.

The CEC subsequently elected her as a vice-chairperson.

In a blog posting today, Kok attributed her election result to her role as the party's organising secretary, which she described as "a time-demanding post".

"As national organising secretary, I had to make some difficult and unpopular decisions, and sometimes I had to endure the predicament of being misunderstood, and accused of being biased by some state and branch leaders.

"Also, I certainly was not able to run around as much as I wanted," she said.

Kok also revealed that she took up the position in 2008 due to "some unavoidable reasons and in the larger party interests", about which she did not elaborate.

"I feel relieved that I am no more national organising secretary. Now I can channel my energy on other party matters, especially election preparations."

She also extended her good wishes to her successor, Rasah MP Anthony Loke who won the fifth highest votes.

"Good luck to the new national organising secretary, Anthony Loke."
