Some 1.9 million applications for the 1Malaysia People's Aid 2.0 (BR1M 2.O) programme have been received as at Dec 12, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Finance Minister Donald Lim said the total covered 1.4 million unmarried applicants and 435,232 household applicants.

“The distribution of BR1M is expected to start in early 2013 and is expected to benefit 4.3 million households as well as 2.7 million unmarried individuals involving RM3 billion,” he said when replying to a question by Senator Chew Lee Giok in Kuala Lumpur.

Lim said the registration of BR1M 2.0 which began on Nov 1 will end on Dec 31.

Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong said up to November this year, 1,811 students had been expelled from schools.

Wee said the expulsion of students from school was the last resort taken by the school on a student who committed grave offences based on school discipline.

“Among the actions taken before expulsion from school included giving warning, discussion with parents or guardians, referred to a disciplinary teacher for advice and motivation and expulsion from school,” he said when replying to a question by Senator Noriah Mahat.

He added that schools did not expel students arbitrarily.

“From the technical aspect, if we were to expell a student from school, we have to go through the process of warning, and if the offence was repeated, the student will be suspended from school for 14 days,” he said.
