The DAP will be seeking clarification from its Perak chief Ngeh Koo Ham and its PAS ally in Kelantan on the allegations related to the former’s company and a piece of land in the state.

DAP national chief Karpal Singh said the allegations that the land was an “inducement” for party leaders to allow a PAS assemblyperson to assume the Perak Menteri Besar’s post was “a serious matter”.

“Party leaders should also not put themselves in situations where a perception of wrongdoing was created,” said Karpal, who is also Bukit Gelugor MP, at a press conference today.

Karpal was responding to questions asked regarding the controversy which first appeared in an anti-Pakatan Rakyat blog, creating waves at the on-going state legislative assembly sitting in Perak.

The allegations implicating Ngeh and his cousin, Pantai Remis assemblyperson Nga Kor Ming, were later publicised by Kelantan Umno leaders who urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.

The offer to DAP was allegedly made after the 2008 gneral election when the party had the most elected representatives in the Perak legislative house.

PAS’ Pasir Panjang assemblyperson Mohammed Nizar Jamaluddin had then assumed the MB’s post despite DAP having the most state representatives.

In an immediate response, Ngeh had denied the allegations while Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had issued a statement via his press secretary Ahmad Fadhli Shaari which was published by PAS organ Harakahdaily .

The report stated that the party's spiritual leader is mulling over suing those who made the “slander”.

Ngeh and Nik Aziz lodge reports

Ngeh, the Bruas MP, and Nik Aziz had since lodged police reports over the matter, while contemplating initiating legal action on those who issued the allegations.

In the statement, Ahmad Fadhli claimed that the land was leased to the company - then chaired by someone other than Ngeh - in 2006.

The new owners, according to Ahmad Fadhli, were told to pay another RM1.5million to the Kelantan Islamic Foundation, which is the owner.
