Other than corrupt practices, an Umno supreme council member wants BN candidates to also be vetted for bankruptcy and moral misconduct.

“Maybe the party does not have complete information about a candidate, especially cases involving corruption, cases under investigation and other cases such as bankruptcies,” said the Malay party’s supreme council member Puad Zarkashi as quoted by Sinar Harian today.

NONE “This proposal will save time and money in ensuring political credibility and that our democratic practice is transparent and respectable, it should also include moral misconduct.”

Puad said this when commenting on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s proposal yesterday, for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to vet the BN candidates for corrupt practices.

Several serving and former BN elected representatives and appointed officials have been mired in corruption in the last year or so, leaving a stain on the entire political party. The ruling coalition members’ often lavish lifestyles have also drawn flak for alleged moral misconduct.

The ‘corrupt’ label is one of the many things that Najib is working hard to shake in his all too often announced reforms of the ruling party.
