Fifty members of various non-governmental organisations yesterday handed over tombstones to three leaders as a symbolic reminder for them to resolve the problem of the alleged destruction of graves at a Muslim cemetery by the developer of an adjacent plot of land in George Town.

The representatives of the NGOs handed the tombstones to Penang state Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairperson Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) president Patahiyah Ismail and Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Council (MAINPP) president Mohd Salleh Man.

The NGOs included the Perkasa Malay right wing group, Federation of Peninsular Malaysia Malay Students, Persatuan Warga Cinta Negara Malaysia (Pencinta), Jaringan Muslim Pulau Pinang (JMPP) and Pertubuhan Dakwah dan Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida).

Officers representing the three leaders received the tombstones handed over by Penang Perkasa chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin at the 9th floor of Menara Umno in Jalan Macalister and the Tun Abdul Razak Complex (Komtar).

Mohd Rizuad said the handing over of the tombstones was a symbolic reminder to the three leaders to resolve the problem of alleged destruction of graves at the Kampung Boundry Muslim cemetery in Ayer Itam by the private developer of an adjacent site.
