The flood situation in the east coast states of Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang has worsened with more than  10,800 people evacuated to flood relief centres this evening as compared to over 6,000 victims in the morning.

In Terengganu, 5,297 victims are now housed in shelters compared to 2,594 in the morning while in the Kelantan, the number rose to 3,218 people as compared to 1,963 people earlier, according the the official websites of their respective state governments.

Meanwhile, according to the National Security Council's flood portal, 2,376 people had been evacuated from their homes in Pahang as compared to 1,743 in the morning while the number of evacuees in Johor remains at 16 people.

The number of flood victims in Hulu Terengganu increased to 1,052 people this evening while Kuala Terengganu saw an increase of 91 flood victims bringing the total thus far to 808.

In Besut the number flood victims now stands at 1,096, followed by Dungun (744), Setiu (717), Kemaman (611) and Marang (269).

Flood relief centres in operation in Terengganu are as follows: Besut (16), Dungun (12), Hulu Terengganu (16), Kemaman (13), Kuala Terengganu (eight), Marang (10) and Setiu (18).

Jalan Jerangau-Jabor which was closed to traffic this morning has been reopened but Km13 of Jalan Tembila and Jalan Penarik-Permaisuri in Kampung Nyatuh still remain closed to light vehicles.

Crown prince visits victims

In KELANTAN, Pasir Mas is having the highest number of evacuees at 2,049, followed by Kuala Krai (355), Kota Baru (264), Tanah Merah (217), Pasir Puteh (245), Machang (47) and Tumpat (41).

Sungai Lebir at Tualang, Kuala Krai; Sungai Kelantan at Jambatan Guillemard, Tanah Merah; and Sungai Golok di Jenob, Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang are still above the danger level, according to the state government's portal.

As of this evening, no more major roads in the state were closed to traffic and there were also no reports of casualties. Weather was reported to be overcast interspersed with drizzle.

In PAHANG, 2,152 victims were evacuated in Kuantan, Pekan (167) and Rompin (57).

Several routes in the Sungai Lembing area were closed to traffic as of today following the the water level in Sungai Lembing rising fast.

The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who visited flood evacuees sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sinar Mutiara in Pekan today, said he hoped flood victims would be patient in facing the flood disaster on the state.

He said the authorities were doing their best and urged flood victims not to fault them if aid was delayed slightly as the poor weather and inundated roads were hampering relief efforts.
