Perak mufti Harussanani Zakaria says Abdul Hadi Awang’s request for a one-hour live television appearance to explain the Amanat Haji Hadi (Hadi's message) which he made in 1981 is unacceptable as the PAS president should not be imposing conditions.

NONE Harussani ( right ) was reported in the New Straits Times today as saying that Abdul Hadi should be more tawadduk (humility) and admit his mistake.

“Why would he want to set a condition to explain himself? If he is wrong just admit it and he can do so without demanding for a live television slot,” said the Perak mufti to the daily, adding that Abdul Hadi was avoiding the issue by setting a condition to explain himself.

Harussani also wants Abdul Hadi to repent as his “amanat” had caused disunity to Muslims, and he should withdraw it.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian also quoted Johor Islamic Department adviser Nooh Gadut as saying Abdul Hadi should be sincere in his explanation and not impose conditions.

“Those who impose conditions are certainly those who have self interest. Abdul Hadi must resolve this issue as this is not a small matter as this involves the religion, religious decree and belief and relates to the Quran and sunnah (practises of the Prophet Muhammad) along with Heaven and Hell,” said Nooh.

Utusan Malaysia quoted a former PAS Youth branch chief, Jusoh Hamat, as saying several PAS supporters from Kampung Jelur Pasir Puteh, were willing to cycle for 10km because Hadi’s message prohibits PAS members from praying behind an Umno imam.

“They were willing to cycle to another kampung for Friday prayers. However, I am not stupid to follow what was said by Abdul Hadi as I continue to pray behind an Umno imam. I became disillusioned with PAS as a result of Abdul Hadi branding others as kafir (infidel).

“Several PAS leaders then decided not to prolong the issue when it was found that what Abdul Hadi had said was wrong according to Islamic teachings,” said Jusoh.

It was reported that Abdul Hadi had sought air time in local television to explain his 1981 message, and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim saying the PAS president will be allowed to explain over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

Meanwhile, Bernama reported Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as saying that Abdul Hadi should make good use of the opportunity given to him to explain over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) on his ‘ Amanat Haji Hadi ’ (Haji Hadi's Message) delivered in 1981 branding Umno members and supporters as infidels.  

Ahmad Zahid, who described the message by Hadi as a 'political edict', said Abdul Hadi should explain the message as it had resulted Muslims in the country to split.  

"It has to be corrected," he told reporters after visiting flood victims at the relief centre at SK Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat yesterday.  

He said the move by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim in agreeing to allow Abdul Hadi to provide an explanation on his message through RTM was apt.  

In another development, Ahmad Zahid, who is defence minister, said members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) were on stand-by during the monsoon season to assist flood victims in the East Coast states.  

ATM also has its medical teams to be sent to locations in need of medical and health services, he added, according to Bernama .
