The state Mufti’s Department will submit a proposal to the Johor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) to postpone work on the relocation of the Muslim cemetery in Pengerang, Kota Tinggi.

Johor mufti Mohd Tahrir Samsudin said a visit to the site of the new cemetery in Punggai revealed that it was not completely ready as it did not have a drainage system, landscaping and perimeter fence.

“We hope the relevant parties could study this matter before relocating the 1,545 graves including 940 that did not have any next of kin involving seven villages that would be relocated to the area,” he said.

He disclosed this after a function in Kota Tinggi today in conjunction with the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) project.

The event was also attended by the chief executive officer of Johor Petroleum Development Corporation Berhad (JPDC), Mohd Yazid Jaafar and the state assemblyperson for Tanjung Surat, Harun Abdullah.
