Perkasa, the Malay right-wing group, said today it would not get involved or interfere in the so-called People’s Uprising Assembly planned by the opposition parties in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 12.

Its president, Ibrahim Ali, said Perkasa did not want to be dragged into the opposition propaganda game which might lead to chaos.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu had said recently that the opposition pact planned to hold the so-called People’s Uprising Assembly in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 12.

Ibrahim also called on the state Islamic religious departments to firmly enforce existing laws to safeguard the sanctity and sovereignty of Islamic religious institutions, including pertaining to the use of the word ‘Allah’.

He drew attention to the proposal by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in his Christmas Day message in his blog for the government to allow the use of the word ‘Allah’ in the Malay version of the Christian Bible in peninsular Malaysia.

Ibrahim said Perkasa urged the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers, as the heads of the Islamic religion in the country and states, to monitor the situation and ensure that it did not prolong.
