The Sarawak government will not allow any industry which could be detrimental to air quality to operate in the state, Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud said today.

He said he personally would not want such industries to operate in Sarawak, which had been all this while been free from air pollution.

"We have not brought into Sarawak Industrialisation Program industries that can cause air pollution," he said when launching the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Agenda 2013 program.

Taib said people in Sarawak should not be hasty in trusting the slogans and struggles of certain parties or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which attempted to paint a picture that the environment in the state had been destroyed.

"There is no real damage or destruction of environment in Sarawak that we have to be worried about," he said.

Instead, Taib said the State Government had taken several proactive measures towards protecting its natural environment in terms of forest and water preservation, wildlife protection and urban area cleanliness.
