Irate folk torch RTD car after 10-vehicle pile-up

your say ChangeLane : When carrying out law enforcement duties, public safety is paramount. The Road Transport Department (RTD) chasing a giant truck along a busy and narrow main street beside a school is tantamount to the police shooting at suspects in the middle of a crowd.

Moreover, the public already have the mindset that the law enforcers are not acting in the interests of the public, but always in the interests of their own pockets. Thus, the show of anger.

BH Yap: I think there is cause to be alarmed. This is probably a first in Malaysia, the public burning a RTD vehicle.

The rakyat feel extremely aggrieved, probably from other government actions, and this frustration has manifested itself here, unfortunately.

OMG !!: Whoever is at fault, there is no justification to take the law into one's own hands. This mob should not be condoned, but must be dealt with severely by the law enforcement officers.

Straight Talk: The police said the RTD vehicle was hit from behind by the lorry. However, looking at the video and photos, the back of the 4WD was not dented at all, while the front part was dented.

This can only confirm that the RTD 4WD hit the lorry head on, and the police are lying through their teeth again.

But if you check the Facebook photo gallery, eye witnesses said there were casualties and there were critically injured victims who were hospitalised.

If you look at the conditions of the vehicles, you can be quite certain the deputy OCPD's words are not the truth.

Anonymous #43051382: By looking at the photograph in the story, the RTD patrol car is definitely at fault.

If the traffic light is red, the RTD car should stop behind the traffic light and all other vehicles including the lorry would have slowed down and stopped at the traffic light junction.

The reason all the vehicles, including the lorry, didn't stop in time points to a green light and that a vehicle in front of the lorry had stopped abruptly without giving any signal.

The vehicle in front as shown in the picture is the RTD patrol car. I think the police should really conduct a fair investigation because their current explanation does not sound right.

Artchan: Why did the RTD fellows run away after the accident? If the lorry driver caused the accidents, shouldn't the lorry driver be the one running? Think about it, Mr Deputy OCPD of Manjung.

WeWantJustice: This looks like just an example of what is going to happen during this coming election.

The people are really fed up with the government policies. And the arrogance of the police and RTD and other government departments adds to this.

They should overturn the government like how they overturned the vehicle. We simply have to stop the government from robbing the country.

The BN leaders live a luxurious life with tax payers' money, whereas we suffer and work our whole life.

Munky: When are the guys on top going to get it? Whatever it is they are doing, it just isn't enough. Do we really need to investigate why people are so mad?

Just look at the lives that we lead - cars are expensive, homes are expensive, satellite TV is expensive, taxes are way off whilst the guys on top lead an exorbitant lifestyle.

All these little things are just eating into us day in and day out. People are fed up and pissed off - any small fire immediately turns into a blazing inferno.

Concern Ctzen: Chinese New Year is coming - you all know that you will be able to see in many places beside the road these so-called 'authorities' trying to get unrighteous money into their pockets.

I wonder if this accident is also due to the 'chasing' for money that ended up in a serious accident? We must get rid of corruption.

James1067: We are tired with all the corruption in the country; the people are learning to speak out. Violence is not the answer, but we hope that the authorities will get the message.

Anonymous_3e86: I suspect it's the arrogance of these authorities that the public can't stomach anymore. I have personally witnessed vehicles of authorities driving recklessly along highways.

Does their uniform give them the right to do whatever they wish on the road? The public do not think highly of or respect our country's enforcement agencies. Why?

Corruption and arrogance are the first things that come to mind.

Quigonbond: The trouble with this incident is that Malaysians are not assured of a fair investigation into what happened. BN politicians will try to spin this as anarchism, especially on the cusp of the massive rally organised by Pakatan on Saturday.

In the end, what this shows is the weakness of institutional impartiality and professionalism, and rampant corruption, all under the purview of the BN federal government, that has rendered rule of law ineffective, a nation sceptical, and people taking the law into their own hands.

What needs to change is the tone of discourse at the national level. And this change can only come with a change in federal government.
