Penang PAS today said that it will abide by the decision made by the PAS syura council pertaining to the use of the word 'Allah' in Malay-language Bible and has declared the issue as resolved.

"...we (Penang PAS) will adopt the decision made by the syura council," Penang PAS Commissioner Mohd Salleh Man told reporters in Kepala Batas today.

He also said the state PAS had never discussed the matter with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The call to allow the word to be used in the Malay-language Bible was made by Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, in his speech at a Christmas do last year.

NONE Various quarters had protested against Lim's call, but his allies, including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat ( left ) and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim lauded it.

However, in accordance with the syura council's decision , Nik Aziz had made a U-turn in his stand by stressing that the word 'Allah' cannot be used by non-Muslims.

Earlier, Mohd Salleh, who is also Penang Islamic Religious Council president, attended the presentation of housing aid for asnaf and the poor in Permatang Bonggor in Kepala Batas.

In his speech, he said the tithe collection in the state had increased to RM75 million last year from RM35 million in 2011.

As such, he said the council had targeted RM100 in tithe collection this year.
