There exists a new awareness among the people in Selangor in regards to support for BN after facing various problems under the opposition-led state government, according to Deputy

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

christmas school 261211 muhyiddin He said this also implied that BN would have a good chance to win back the state after the party's dismal performance in the 2008 general election.  

"Overall, it appears that the support for BN is good and growing. From the reports that I received from the divisions, state and parliamentary constituencies, as well as from my meetings with local leaders, there exists a new awareness among the people as they have been facing many problems under the current opposition-led state government."

Muhyiddin said this to reporters after attending a closed-door briefing for Sabak Bernam and Sungai Besar Umno and BN component parties in Sabak Bernam today.

Present were Selangor BN deputy chairperson Noh Omar and Selangor BN coordinator Mohd Zin Mohamad.

Situation still challenging for BN

Muhyiddin, however, admitted that the situation was very challenging and that he would not want to overestimate the people's support for BN.

He said the BN government was aware of the unsolved problems faced by the people in Selangor, especially certain issues that were purposely left unaddressed by the state government.

"So, I believe that over the past two years, the people in Selangor have obtained a better understanding and realise that we are not politicising the issues, but merely pointing out that they (Selangor government) don't practice what they preach and they don't fulfill their promises.

"I am confident that the people are now very much aware of the people who make up the opposition government of Selangor today," he said.

Commenting on the remarks by Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) president Ibrahim Ali, who called for the Malay-language Bible which contained the word 'Allah' to be burned, Muhyiddin said he believed that Ibrahim had given his explanation and that the police were aware of that.

"What's important now is not to sensationalise the issue and that whoever plans to make a statement should also take account of racial and religious sensitivities," he added.
