A survey of Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman’s state constituency of Sg Sibuga found it “backward and extremely poor”, said PKR Women’s Youth today.

The wing’s chief Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail said they surveyed around 200 houses in the vicinity of the constituency of about 5,000 voters this morning.

“The result of our visit we found that the area could be categorised as backward and very poor,” she said.

Three main issues facing the residents, she said, was the level of cleanliness of the surroundings, “which is too filthy and unkempt”, the lacking facilities and their status as squatters without land titles.

“The residents here are faced with the risk of being evicted without notice or compensation from the Sabah Umno-BN government,” she said.

She said the squalid conditions of the constituency reflected Sabah BN’s failure to bring any progress to the state.

The Women’s youth wing is on a campaign trail of Sabah’s east coast involving seven parliamentary constituencies.

“In Sabah, the chief minister and the entire Umno-BN leadership practises political intimidation and samseng culture towards the people to maintain their hold on power.

“They use all manner of aid under the name of the government as a form of intimidation, to ensure that the people never rise against them for change,” said Siti Aishah.

However she noted that the mood for change was increasing amongst the locals.

Sabah, despite its oil reserves, is one of the poorest states in the country. From 1970 to 2000 it was reported that the state’s population has nearly tripled.

At the ongoing royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on immigrants in Sabah it was revealed that thousands of immigrants had been allegedly given citizenships in order to boost the Umno’s support base in the state.
