PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today declined to comment on calls from various quarters to review the sacking of Nasharudin Mat Isa as a member of the party’s ulama syura council.

He said the matter should be referred to the syura council as the decision was made by the council.

“I need not ask (the council on Nasharudin’s sacking). People should ask the PAS ulama council. It’s their business,” he told reporters after giving a keynote address at the International Education Convention organised by Universiti Selangor in Shah Alam.

Various quarters including some PAS leaders want the party to review the decision to sack Nasharudin, who is former party deputy president, from the ulama syura council and also to give him the chance to defend himself against the allegations thrown at him.

Nasharudin, who has been consistent in his stance over the hudud issue, establishment of an Islamic state and the ‘kalimah Allah’ issue while also often criticising PAS-DAP relations, was removed from the syura council with effect from Jan 13.

The excuses given were his absence from the syura council meetings and making statements that were in conflict with the council’s stand and decisions.
