Police have urged the remaining 13 of 14 witnesses of the Jan 12 rally deemed to have violated the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 to come forward and give their statements.

NONE Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar ( left ) today assured the witnesses that they need not feel worried as they were only required to assist police in the investigations.

"We have not been advised on the identity of the 13 witnesses but rest assured we will not penalise them.

"We just want to investigate why children were brought to the rally. Was it because they were not aware of the act or there were other reasons?" he told a media conference at the presentation of aid 25 recipients, including widows and parents of police personnel in Kuala Lumpur.

It is claimed that the rally organisers had allowed children aged below 15 to participate in the event.

Last Saturday, a 41-year-old man, who was one of the 14 witnesses sought, came to the Kulai Jaya police headquarters about 3 pm to give his statement.

Meanwhile, Ismail urged police officers, personnel and department staff to buy life insurance coverage for themselves and their families.

"Even though the government budget has approved a group insurance for the police, it is advisable to buy personal insurance to protect the family," he said.
