The MCA has submitted the names its candidates for the next general election to the Barisan Nasional (BN) and is awaiting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s endorsement, said MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai.

“We are confident that our probable candidates are winnable candidates who have the experience, calibre and commitment to serve the people,” he told reporters after attending a Chinese New Year celebration hosted by Resorts World Genting in Kuala Lumpur today.

About 500 children and residents from Rumah Charis, House of Megaways, Pusat Jagaan Taman Megah, NS Care Gemilang, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, and Rumah Faith were entertained at the event.

Asked whether the MCA is asking for more seats in the next general election, he said, “It’s up to the top leadership because what matter most they are winnable candidates, regardless from which BN party as long as they can win for BN.”

On a threat from Himpunan Hijau president Wong Tack to burn down the Lynas rare earths refinery in Gebeng, Kuantan, he said it was an irresponsible and emotional outburst that would cause a lot of problems to the country.

“But I believe sensible people will not get on the bandwagon. The government will handle the Lynas issue and ensure the safety of the people. Don’t take the law into your own hands and nobody is above the law,” he said.  

Wong allegedly threatened to burn down the Lynas rare earths refinery and called for street demonstrations to topple the new government should the plant still be running after the 13th general election at a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) event in Kuantan recently.
