The body of former The Sun and Malaysiakini journalist Claudia Theophilus, who was killed in Lebanon last week, is expected to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow evening.

Umno Youth complaints bureau chairperson Muhammad Khairun Aseh was quoted by The Star Online as saying the party's mission, led by the bureau's assistant director Khairil Anuar Ahmad, arrived in Beirut on Feb 5.

"Claudia's body was identified by her sister, Dora, at a hospital in Baakleen, some 90 minutes away from Beirut.

"The mission team is also seeking further clarification from the Lebanese police, and their statements have also been recorded," Khairun said in a statement.

In complying with the family's wishes, he said, an application was filed with the local court for the body to be sent back as soon as possible.

"The court also ordered the police to return all Claudia's belongings, including those categorised as evidence in the ongoing investigation," he said.

The mission's success was due to support from Theophilus' family as well as the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut and Wisma Putra, Khairun added.

Claudia, a producer with television network Al-Jazeera , died from a stray bullet at about 2.30am local time on Feb 2.

Later in a statement, Claudia’s sister Dora Theophilus announced that the funeral will take place on Monday at the Church of Visitation, Jalan Yam Tuan, Seremban.
