The Selangor government will send a letter of offer to water concessionaire Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) next week, express its intention to take over the water supply services in the state.

NONE Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he hopes that Syabas golden shareholder, the federal government, will assist in the deal.

If the federal government does not agree, he said, the state government will seek a judicial review of the decision.

“We have prepared a letter of offer to the concessionaire and we hope they will not reject it based on the price factor,” he told a press conference today  after chairing the state exco meeting.

“We have repeated that the concessionaire can refer to international arbitration to get reasonable compensation.”

However, Khalid refused to reveal the cost of the takeover, saying that this is a “sensitive” matter.

On Jan 30, he had announced that the state government would acquire Syabas since Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had agreed to this.
