Puteri Umno chief Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin has dismissed as preposterous, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's claim that there will be 'people power' or a political tsunami in Sabah, which will ease Pakatan Rakyat's passage to Putrajaya.

The deputy health minister said the majority of Sabahans, especially the youth, instead supported the BN government.

NONE Rosnah said many of Anwar's statements, including on the Sept 16, 2008 episode in which the opposition projected it would take over the federal government, were untrue and did not reflect the grassroots' strong support for the opposition.

"His latest claim shows that he really wants to feel the seat of power in Putrajaya and become the country's number one leader, but we in BN do not fear or feel threatened by his political gimmick," she said after chairing a Puteri Umno Malaysia meeting in Kota Kinabalu today.

She was asked by reporters to comment on Anwar's latest claim made at a Chinese New Year celebration organised by the Kota Kinabalu PKR division at Dewan Putra Luyang, last Sunday.

‘Look back at Anwar’s bluff’

Describing it as cheap politics, Rosnah urged the people to look back at Anwar's bluff about Sept 16, 2008, when he claimed that Pakatan Rakyat had enough majority in Parliament to form a new federal government, which turned out to be false.

On the opposition's strident claims that the Beaufort, Papar and Tuaran parliamentary seats were already in their hands, Rosnah was confident that BN would be able to retain these three seats in the upcoming general election.

"Puteri Umno will work hard to assist Umno achieve victory in these constituencies," she said.

NONE The Beaufort constituency is currently represented by former housing and local government deputy minister Lajim Ukin ( right ).

Last July, Lajim announced his resignation as Beaufort Umno division chief and is now heading a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Pakatan Perubahan Sabah (PPS), which supports the opposition.

The current MP for Tuaran is former United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) deputy president Wilfred Bumburing, who now heads the Angkatan Perubahan Sabah (APS), another NGO.

Bumburing had also quit BN and declared his support for the opposition.

Meanwhile, Rosnah who is also Papar MP, expressed satisfaction with Sabah Puteri Umno's preparations for the upcoming 13th general election and said they were just waiting for the word 'go' from the party's top leadership on the next move.

"We have covered all levels including the rural and remote areas, and based on the information received, the majority of women aged 40 and below view the BN government's tranformation programmes positively," she said.
