PKR vice-president N Surendran has dismissed a purported video of the party's de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim belittling PAS leaders Abdul Hadi Awang and Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as "impossible".
Though he has not viewed it yet, Surendran when asked about the video told
Malaysiakini
: "If you tell me that the video shows Anwar saying Nik Aziz no longer understands Islam - it's impossible. It has to be a fake or doctored video.
"I know the way Anwar speaks about Nik Aziz. He has the highest regard for Nik Aziz. No way, definitely no way Anwar could have said such a thing."
The one-minute clip of Anwar speaking in Sabah recently has been circulating on pro-BN blogs since last week.
Anwar in the posting purportedly says, "Nik Aziz no longer understands Islam... Hadi Awang too. He just follows."
Nik Aziz is PAS’ spiritual advisor, while Hadi is the party president.
Anwar has made similar statements in the past during his ceramah (talks) circuit, but in the context of describing Umno’s attack against the two PAS leaders over the issue of using ‘Allah’ as the translation for ‘God’ in Malay-language Bibles.
Although Umno’s campaigning is mentioned at the beginning of the video, its poor sound quality makes it difficult to ascertain whether Anwar was speaking in the same context.
