The DAP today lodged a police report on a statement by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan that "Malays will disappear if they continue to slack".

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's political secretary Zairil Khir Johari lodged the report at the Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Pattani at 10am today.

Corporal Rohani Ismail recorded the report by Zairil, who was accompanied by state DAP Socialist Youth leaders Chris Lee (deputy chief), Haris Zuan (Bukit Bendera representative), Ooi Zhen Chee (Bukit Mertajam chief) and See Kay Seong (Batu Kawan representative).

"It is as if Umno leaders have no other capital but to continue to slander the Pakatan Rakyat with false claims that the position of Malays in Penang is increasingly threatened and marginalised," Zairil said after lodging the report.

He was referring to an article in Malay daily Berita Harian quoting Mohamad as saying that the Penang government had "approved the building of Nanyang University" in Kampung Genting, Balik Pulau.

This, Mohamad alleged, was a "silent effort" to drive Malays out of the area.

"It is clear from his statement that Mohamad intents to incite racial sentiments and instil feelings of fear and anger towards the Penang government among the Malay community," Zairil said.

"The truth is, Penang did not approve any development project related to Nanyang University. Mohamad's allegations are lies and baseless."

'Malays shortchanged by Umno'

Zairil said the Malays have been shortchanged by the Umno leaders and not by the Pakatan government.

He cited the case in Kampung Terang, Balik Pulau, where two Umno leaders - Musa Sheikh Fadzir and Omar Faudzar - had acquired 10 acres of land from 31 Malay owners.

"The RM8.6 million plot was, four months later, sold to a private developer for RM13.5 million," Zairil said.

"In other words, the two Umno leaders made a profit of RM5 million by taking advantage of these Malays," he added.

"So, who really sold off Malay land for personal profit?"

When the matter was exposed in Penang last year, Musa and Omar claimed they were compelled to dispose of the land because their development company had been "blacklisted" by the state government.
